In OKA - Ontario
September 21, 2017 - Reducing Cardiometabolic Risk in Primary care: Role for Kinesiologists in The CHANGE Program
OKA, in partnership with Metabolic Syndrome Canada is pleased to offer a webinar on Reducing Cardiometabolic Risk in Primary care: Role for Kinesiologists in The CHANGE Program, on September 21, 2017.
Cardiometabolic risk and ensuing diseases result in an enormous burden on the Canadian health care system. Despite promising results from multiple studies showing the benefit of diet and exercise in reducing risk of developing cardiac disease and diabetes, the uptake of reducing cardiometabolic risk through lifestyle modification in Canadian primary care settings is limited. When lifestyle programs are implemented in primary care, they often lack the team based approach, especially the guidance offered by an exercise specialist. It is also difficult to ascertain whether patients have been effectively empowered to make long term changes in their health. The Canadian Health Advanced by Nutrition and Graded Exercise [CHANGE] program, developed by leading health experts from Metabolic Syndr ome Canada, a non-for profit organization, educates patients about their cardiometabolic risk and empowers them to undertake an individualized, supervised program of diet modification and exercise under the supervision of their family physician. This webinar will review the evidence supporting the effectiveness of the CHANGE program in primary care, the role of the exercise specialist in the program and current efforts that are underway to expand the program across Ontario and other provinces.
This webinar is open to both members and non members of OKA and we would encourage anyone with interest to participate.
